The tight end position was another area of concern heading into the offseason, and once Buffalo released veteran Charles Clay, it became apparent the team was in the market for a tight end to pair with Jason Croom, who possesses talent but has underwhelmed during his time on the field. Buffalo was extremely active in free agency, adding 20 new faces in an effort to infuse quality players to a roster in need of significant upgrades following a 6-10 campaign in 2018. In my opinion, Beane has done a good job overhauling the roster and positioning the Bills for a playoff run in 2019 and beyond. He succeeded in providing significant upgrades to the offensive line, led by Mitch Morse, Quinton Spain, Ty Nsekhe, and Spencer Long Chris Ivory Jerseys 2019 , and added two play-making wide receivers in John Brown and Cole Beasley. When looking for an area where Buffalo came up short this offseason, I settled on the tight end position—in part because I didn’t feel there were many other areas where Buffalo whiffed. The group of free-agent tight ends was a less-than-impressive collection of players, with Jesse James, Tyler Kroft, Jared Cook, and Tyler Eifert “leading” the class of free agents. Knowing his team needed help at the position, the Bills inked Kroft to a three-year deal worth $18.75 million. At the time, the move was viewed by many with skepticism, as Kroft was coming off a debilitating foot injury that forced him to miss 11 games in 2018 and land on the season-ending injured-reserve list. In theory, the benefits to signing Kroft are there. Listed at 6’6” and 250 lbs, Kroft would provide Josh Allen with a talented red-zone threat, and has shown himself to be a more than capable blocker. But the Bills gave out a lot of money to an oft-injured free agent whose most productive receiving season was 2017, when he hauled in 42 passes for 404 yards (with an impressive seven touchdowns). Making matters worse, during Organized Team Activities (OTAs), Kroft broke the same foot he injured during the 2018 season and his status for the start of the regular season is in jeopardy. It’s easy in hindsight to pick the Kroft signing as my least favorite, especially after the foot injury. But even before Kroft suffered another foot injury White Jeremy Kerley Jerseys , this move didn’t excite me. To Beane’s credit, the contract for Kroft isn’t terrible, as most of the guaranteed money is absorbed during the first year of the three-year deal. Buffalo also addressed the position by signing blocking tight end Lee Smith to a three-year deal, and by drafting rookies Dawson Knox and Tommy Sweeney. While Beane has brought in a slew of candidates to fill the tight-end role, committing that much money to a player like Kroft, who has yet to establish himself as a reliable pass-catcher, can be viewed as a risky move, especially when the team could have explored a trade for Kyle Rudolph of the Minnesota Vikings instead.Since the start of the 2016 season, Rudolph has caught 204 passes for 2,006 yards with 19 touchdowns. Only Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz have more receptions and touchdowns during that span, while only Ertz, Kelce, Jimmy Graham and Eric Ebron have more receiving yards than Rudolph. The Kroft signing carried some risk with it, and earns my vote for my least favorite offseason move during a signing period where the Bills connected more than they missed. Rosters are far from set and we are eight days from the 2019 NFL Draft, but the schedule is in our hands, so why don’t we take a look and guess at how the Giants fare?Week 1Sept 8 - at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.Giants do not start out on the right foot here. They are rebooting their offense after shipping their best player off to Cleveland, while also trying to fit a bevy of new parts together on defense. These things take time and it would be a surprise if they fit together right away. Also, the Giants’ offense will look to attack the short-middle of the field, right where Dallas is the strongest.Loss: 0-1Week 2Sept. 15 - vs. Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m.This one is going to be tough to forecast. Buffalo’s offense was just bad last year, and they will be hoping for significant improvement from Josh Allen in his second year, and for the draft to yield at least one dynamic weapon for them. Cole Beasley was a thorn in the Giants’ side in Dallas and John Brown could exploit Allen’s incredible arm strength, but they need a true number one receiver. However, Buffalo has also sunk significant resources into rebuilding their offensive line and Josh Allen’s size and mobility make him a tough quarterback to bring down Carl Banks Jerseys 2019 , and the Giants do not yet have a proven pass rusher on their roster. Meanwhile, Buffalo had a good run defense and the league’s best pass defense in 2018.If the Giants’ offense doesn’t come to play, this one could get ugly, but for now I’ll forecast a narrow win. The Giants are putting a lot of faith in Janoris Jenkins, Sam Beal, and Antoine Bethea, and this game will test them. Right now this game looks like another coin flip. Last year the Giants were only able to consistently win games when the other offense handed them the ball. If Arians and Winston turn out to be turnover-prone, the Giants might pull this one out.Win: 2-1Week 4Sept. 29 - vs. Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.September ends with Landon Collins making his return to MetLife Stadium. Will the Giants be right about him, or will he play up to the historic standards he set in 2016? More importantly, who will be playing quarterback for Washington? Last year a more talented Giants’ defense made Josh Johnson look like 2011-vintage Eli Manning after feasting on Mark Sanchez for a half of football. Right now its difficult to see the Giants getting through Washington’s offensive line and easy to see Collins playing with a chip on his shoulder. Loss: 2-2Week 5Oct. 6 - vs. Minnesota Vikings, 1 p.m.Right now it looks like the Vikings simply out-class the Giants on both sides of the ball. They will also be getting input from Gary Kubiak on offense White Phil McConkey Jerseys , which could make both Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook much more dangerous. Loss: 2-3Week 6Oct. 10 (Thursday night) - at New England Patriots, 8:20 p.m.What will the Patriots be without Rob Gronkowski? Still good, and probably better than the Giants. Loss: 2-4Week 7Oct. 20 - vs. Arizona Cardinals, 1 p.m.Here we are at another coin-flip game. What will the Cardinals even look like come September? They had the worst offense in the NFL last year, but with Kliff Kingsbury calling the shots that could (should) change. It could be radically different if the Cards draft Kyler Murray. If so, the Giants simply might not have the speed on defense to account for him, and that will only make David Johnson that much more dangerous. On defense, they are returning to a scheme that better fits their talent, and Chandler Jones could be a big problem for the Giants. Still, since the last coin flip came up tails, this one will come up “Giants”. Win: 3-4Week 8Oct. 27 - at Detroit Lions, 1 p.m.The Giants will see a lot of familiar faces when they travel to Detroit, with Damon Harrison, Devon Kennard, Romeo Okwara Phil McConkey Jerseys 2019 , and Andrew Adams are all on the Lions’ defense and playing well under Matt Patricia. Harrison, Kennard, and Okwara combined for 18 sacks and three forced fumbles, while rookie lineman DaShawn Hand added three more sacks and two forced fumbles of his own.This one looks like it could be a tough one for the Giants, and after last season they don’t get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to tough ones. Loss: 3-5Week 9Nov. 4 (Monday night) - vs. Dallas Cowboys, 8:15 p.m.The Giants are going to have to prove to me that they can win important games against higher level teams before I give a game like this to them. The Giants usually play the Cowboys hard, but I can’t predict they’ll come out on top. Loss: 3-6Week 10Nov. 10 - at NEW YORK JETS, 1 p.m.This is one of those years when the Snoopy Bowl will mean something.The Jets went on a major spending spree this off-season, getting Sam Darnold a serious upgrade in firepower in Le’Veon Bell, as well as a dependable slot receiver in Jamison Crowder. The Jets also added linebacker C.J. Mosley in front of Jamal Adams. They could find themselves with one of the best defensive players in a loaded defensive draft, or haul of picks if another team trades up. Either way they look like a team on the rise. Loss: 3-7Week 11Nov. 17 - BYEA much-needed break before the stretch run to the end of the season.Week 12Nov. 24 - at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.The Giants probably aren’t going to luck out and face Chase Daniel and a Bears’ defense without Khalil Mack. The Giants only just barely managed to beat the Bears by the skin of their teeth in overtime without their teeth last year — and that with the Bears missing their best player and starting quarterback. Loss: 3-8Week 13Dec. 1 - vs. Green Bay Packers, 1 p.m.The Packers had the free agency period the Giants wished they had, signing EDGEs Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith, safety Adrian Amos White Mark Bavaro Jerseys , and Billy Turner to add to their offensive line. Oh, and they still have Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will look different after firing Mike McCarthy and hiring Matt LeFleur to be their new head coach. We don’t know what they will look like under LeFleur, but he learned offense under Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, and if his offense looks anything like theirs, Rodgers could be very scary. Loss: 3-9Week 14Dec. 9 (Monday night) - at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 p.m.The Giants’ first meeting of the year with the Eagles will be in primetime at the Lincoln Financial Center. Need I say more? Something bad and weird will happen, and the Giants will lose. Loss: 3-10Week 15Dec. 15 - vs. Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.The Dolphins are one of the few teams with a roster even more depleted than the Giants. This game could go either way, but if neither team selects a quarterback in next week’s draft, this game could be for the right to have their pick of the 2020 quarterback class. So, the Giants being the Giants, will probably come up with a win here. Win: 4-10Week 16Dec. 22 - at Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.I don’t expect the chip on Collins’ shoulder to still be there, but by this point it might not matter.The Giants might claw out a win as they so often do late in the season against Washington, but I’m still in “Show Me” modeLoss: 4-11Week 17Dec. 29 - vs. Philadelphia Eagles Mark Bavaro Jerseys 2019 , 1 p.m.The Giants end the season at home against the Eagles, but as I said before, I can’t predict they’ll win until they show me that they can compete with the better teams in the league. Loss: 4-12Season Record: 4-12The offseason is the season of hope, but we need to be realistic about the state of the Giants’ roster. They have hemorrhaged talent since carrying an 11-5 record into the 2017 season two years ago and have added precious little at high-leverage positions to replace it.Unless Pat Shurmur and Mike Shula do something truly innovative and much more aggressive than what they showed in 2018, their offense is in danger of being one-dimensional and easily suffocated by simple defensive schemes. The Giants’ defense is being held together by bubblegum and the hope that a series of “maybes” and “ifs” will pan out. The good news is that we are still a LONG way from September. The landscape of the NFL could, and likely will, shift between now and then, and we will probably make more predictions after the draft and then a final one before the start of the season. We’ll see then what kind of improvements the Giants made in 2019. Washington safety Landon Collins said recently that he thought the Giants would draft Dwayne Haskins, but the Giants opted for Daniel Jones and Collins feels Washington was able to steal “the best quarterback” in the draft as a result.The choice to pass on Haskins was made by Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman, who was also behind the decision not to use a franchise tag or make an overwhelming offer to Collins before he made his way to Washington in free agency. Collins and Haskins are now teammates with cornerback Josh Norman, who has his own history with Gettleman.When Gettleman was the General Manager in Carolina, he opted to rescind Norman’s franchise tag and Norman moved on to Washington. During an appearance on , Norman was asked about the connection between how the three players got to the team.“I think we need to put him on salary,” Norman said. “They need to protect Dave Gettleman at all costs in New York because he’s winning for us.”Neither NFC East team has done enough winning on the field of late and the prospect of changing that may rest heavily on which team made the right call about their first-round quarterback last month.

The long awaited start of the Vikings regular season is just a few days away Linval Joseph Jersey , and expectations are high going into the Vikings first home game against the 49ers.Here’s a few matchups I’m looking at:CAN THE VIKINGS RUN ON THE 49ERS DEFENSE?It will be interesting to see how the Vikings offense line fares on Sunday, with Brett Jones at center and Tom Compton at left guard, in addition to Reiff at left tackle, Remmers at right guard and Rashod Hill at right tackle.The 49ers have DeForest Buckner on their defensive line, but even his run defense wasn’t that great last season, and everybody else along the 49ers DL was worse. Beyond that, the 49ers will be starting a couple unproven linebackers - including rookie 3rd round pick Fred Warner.Malcolm Smith missed all of last season, and hasn’t fared well in the three seasons prior to that.Smith was also limited in practice yesterday with a hamstring issue.The 49ers top LB - Reuben Foster - will be out serving a suspension.Expect the Vikings to test the 9ers’ LBs early and often with both run and pass, which could lead to big games for Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray.HOW GOOD IS RICHARD SHERMAN THESE DAYS?It will be interesting if Kirk Cousins throws much into Sherman’s coverage. Sherman has been a shut-down corner for a long time, but started showing his age last season before he suffered an Achilles injury that sidelined him the rest of the season in Seattle.Now with the 9ers, and with just 34 snaps in preseason, how well will he play?WELCOME TO THE NFL MIKE MCGLINCHEYOn offense, the 49ers will be starting rookie first-round pick Mike McGlinchey at right-tackle. He was mediocre in preseason, and will be facing off against Danielle Hunter, who may give him a rather rude welcome to the NFL.JIMMY G VS. MIKE ZJimmy Garoppolo has been in the league for several years now, but still has just over a handful of games under his belt. Look for Mike Zimmer and the Vikings defense to throw a lot of different looks at him, with lots of pre-snap movement to get in his head. And if the 9ers aren’t able to put together an effective ground game without Jerick McKinnon, it could be a long and painful outing for Jimmy G, who can throw the occasional INT.I wouldn’t be surprised to see the return of the double-A gap blitz look against the 49ers’ interior OL and Jimmy G, among other things.Sheldon Richardson had his best game (largely due to run defense) last season at the 49ers week 12.The 49ers OL outside of Joe Staley at LT (who is a stud), will be tested against the Vikings DL.SPECIAL TEAMSWith all the issues the Vikings had in preseason on special teams, combined with the new specialists and returners Kirk Cousins Jersey , it will be interesting to see how the Vikings fare on special teams.I’m hoping for a mistake-free game on special teams, but with a new punter, kicker, holder, returner, special teams players, and new rules,anything could happen. Hopefully it will be uneventful.BOTTOM LINEThe 49ers had a lot planned for Jerick McKinnon in their offense this year, so losing him for the season with an ACL tear was a big blow. Losing MLB Reuben Foster to suspension for two games will hurt too.Still, Jimmy G looks like the real deal and he’s got a couple good receivers to throw to in Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin. But Mike Zimmer and the Vikings defense in the roar of the crowd at US Bank stadium isn’t about to let a young QB steal the show, especially absent a decent ground game.I’m looking for a dominant defensive performance from the Vikings to start the season, with an impressive ground game making things easier for Kirk Cousins in his debut as a Viking, and a comfortable Vikings win.27-13. GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers strolled into Chicago for the season opener boasting a revamped defense with several expensive additions, and suffocated quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears’ offense.Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine’s unit will see an entirely different challenge in running back Dalvin Cook on Sunday when the Packers (1-0) host the Minnesota Vikings (1-0), another NFC North foe.Cook rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries against the Atlanta Falcons last week. This will likely be the high point of Griffin’s Jets career so let’s take a moment to tip our caps.Demaryius Thomas: Darnold did a good job spreading the ball around, and Thomas was one of three Jets receivers with over 60 yards.Jamal Adams: Adams was credited with 9 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss, but his biggest play was his well-timed blitz on Dallas’ game-tying two point conversion attempt. He forced an early and inaccurate throw by Dak Prescott that sealed the win for the Jets. You want impact from Adams.
