Vasquez-USA TODAY SportsWhether or not the New York Giants draft a quarterback at the top of the 2019 NFL Draft remains to be seen, but we do know that some of the most important decision makers in their organization are out pounding the pavement and doing their due diligence. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network is reporting that the Giants’ contingent attending the Ohio State pro day is led by Chris Mara (vice president of player personnel), Kevin Abrams (assistant general manager and vice president of football operations), coach Pat Shurmur, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks Coach Mike Shula, and Chris Pettit, who is one of the Giants’ top scouts. Garafolo is also reporting that not only will the Giants be scouting quarterback Dwayne Haskins, but they had dinner with him Tuesday night. Perhaps not coincidentally, these are many of the same decision makers who were on hand for Kyler Murray’s pro day at Oklahoma last week. Following the workout, Shurmur called Haskins an “impressive young man.”Haskins told reporters he feels like he is “the best player in the draft.’’Aditi Kinkhabwala (also of NFL Network) has the full list of Giants in attendance, and well, they got more brass out there than John Philip Sousa. In addition to the names listed above, defensive coordinator James Bettcher, assistant defensive backs coach Henry Baker, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, and assistant offensive line coach Ben Wilkerson, and area scout Steve Devine were all in attendance. Of course, Ohio State has a bevy of talented prospects in this year’s draft and the Giants will want to get a look at all of them. But no position has a greater impact on a franchise than the quarterback, and with a pick in the top 10 the Giants want to make sure they make the right decision.Who is scouting whom?Chris Mara, Pat Shurmur (HC), and Mike Shula (OC) - Dwyane Haskins (quarterback) James Bettcher (DC), Henry Baker (DB) - Nick Bosa (EDGE), Dre’Mont Jones (DL), Kendall Sheffield (CB - Note: Sheffield tore a pectoral muscle bench pressing at the Combine), Dante Booker (LB), Tyke Tolbert (WR) - Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin, Johnnie DixonBen Wilkerson (OL) - Michael Jordan, Demetrius Knox, Isaiah Prince, Malcom PridgeonWe will have more from the Ohio State pro day as we get it, so stay tuned to Big Blue View. What surprises will Dave Gettleman and the Giants pull on Day 2?"On Thursday the New York Giants shocked fans with the selection of quarterback Daniel Jones out of Duke at sixth overall in Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft. With the 17th overall pick, they bolstered their defensive line with the behemoth defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence from Clemson. The Giants then traded several Day 2 and Day 3 picks to the Seattle Seahawks to get back into the first round, selecting Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker 30th overall. Now on to Day 2.
