This also is the final open practice for the 49ers of the 2019 season. Let’s get to it: Injury newsAntone Exum Jr. did not participate and is considered day-to-dayDefensive tackle D.J. Jones returned to practice after the knee injury scare. Running back Raheem Mostert returned after suffering a concussion last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Mike Person is day-to-day. The injury scare was just that: a scare. It doesn’t seem like it’s anything to fret over. There was a fightFights are going to happen in training camp. When it’s a joint practice, it can be an even better bet to assume some friction between the teams could occur. We did get a fight between the Broncos offense and 49ers defense. Marcell Harris was seen as “flying across the field” and it took a few minutes to separate everyone and end the skirmish. The takeaway from this is that two Broncos players were ejected for it but no 49ers. Kyle Shanahan said that he was told no 49ers players threw punches. Jimmy Garoppolo wins the “game”We got a nice reset of the Jimmy Garoppolo from 2017. On a two-minute drill, Garoppolo took the team down the field thanks to deep pass to Jordan Matthews. Robbie Gould hit the 55-yard kick as time expired. Vic Fangio even tried icing Gould with time outs. Garoppolo also had some nice passes to Marquise Goodwin (who has been having a good camp according to some reports) and a 30-yarder to Richie James. It’s all but certain Garoppolo will play on Monday. How much is yet to be determined. Defense still solidWhile the Denver offense scored in a few redzone opportunities, the 49ers defense still had a good day. Fred Warner forced a fumble recovered by Ahkello Witherspoon.Speaking of Warner, that guy has been making practice reports an awful lot lately. And for good stuff. Richard Sherman missed a pass breakup to Courtland Sutton, but according to Nick Wagoner, Arik Armstead would have had the sack before the throw happened anyways. The wide receivers make catchesDante Pettis, Jalen Hurd, Deebo Samuel, and Jordan Matthews all made contested catches. That first name Terrell Owens Jersey , Pettis is the one to note since he’s been having a nasty case of the drops through camp. Marquise Goodwin has been quite impressive the last two days with some analysts pegging him as a lock for the 2019 team. Up nextThe 49ers will have a walk-through on Sunday where the media will not be available. Their preseason game is against the Denver Broncos on Monday night at 5:00 PM PST. This also concludes media availability for practice. Starting next week, the 49ers will be closed to the media beyond individual drills and stretching.Reuben Foster excited to be back, ready to face ‘fast as hell’ Chiefs offense The San Francisco 49ers welcome back a critical piece to their defense this week with the return of linebacker Reuben Foster. He was suspended the first two games of the season, and was able to re-join the team on Monday following the 49ers Week 2 win over the Detroit Lions.Foster met with the media on Thursday, and Cam Inman got some video of a couple minutes of the session. You can watch it below. Foster opens talking about how he watched the Lions game.It would seem like he forgot what time the game was started, thus the rush home. And clearly he is a big Chik-Fil-A fan given how he quickly remembered they couldn’t have been open for the game since it took place on a Sunday and they are closed on Sundays.Foster also talked about Monday being like a holiday in getting back to practice. Until this week he was able to attend meetings and do conditioning work, but he could not practice with the rest of the team or be with them on the sidelines on game day. He also talked about “playing [his] cards right” and, “doing good off the field and on the field. Just don’t do nothing off the field, so I won’t be off the field again.”The 49ers face a Chiefs offense that has ridiculous speed up and down the roster. Foster said he has been watching Chiefs film for over two weeks now, and they are physical and “fast as hell.” We won’t see him deep on Tyreek Hill by any means, but I imagine he gets some work against All Pro tight end Travis Kelce.
