ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Austin Czarnik Jersey . -- Both Demaryius Thomas and Chris Harris Jr. plan to practice next week with the first day of the Denver Broncos training camp. Thomas was excused to attend the funeral of the grandmother who helped raise him in Georgia. Harris was held out while he awaits a trip to see his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, on Monday to check on his surgically repaired left knee. Thomas attended the Broncos team meeting Wednesday, a day after his grandmother died, and received permission from coach John Fox to leave for a few days. Hes expected to rejoin his teammates Monday. "He had a tragic loss. His grandmother in the Atlanta area passed away from Alzheimers," Fox said. "That combined with the news of (Broncos owner Pat) Bowlen is pretty devastating stuff. That woman basically raised D.T. Hes back there in Georgia and left last night. Hes where he needs to be right now. We expect him back when the services are over." The Broncos announced Wednesday that Bowlen was relinquishing control of the team because of Alzheimers. Thomas caught a team-best 92 passes for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. He also set a Super Bowl record with 13 receptions. Thomas agent and the Broncos have exchanged proposals on a long-term contract that general manager John Elway wants to get done within the next two weeks so that it doesnt become a distraction. Thomas is expected to be back Monday, the same day Harris hopes to get clearance to practice again. Harris was supposed to see his surgeon earlier this week, but that appointment was delayed. "It just worked out better, to give me an extra week," said Harris, who was wearing a knee brace during sideline work Thursday, something he hopes to be able to ditch in a couple of weeks. "I cant go into games with a brace, no way," Harris said with a chuckle. All indications are Andrews will clear Harris, who expects to be eased into practice the way Von Miller has been. Both tore an anterior cruciate ligament last season, Miller in December and Harris in the playoffs in January. Miller is participating in 7-on-7 and individual drills and retreating to the sideline during 11-on-11 portions of practice. Bubba Caldwell got the bulk of work in his absence Thursday and tight end Julius Thomas, whos also in contract negotiations, was split wide on some snaps. The Broncos open the preseason Aug. 7 against Seattle, which routed them 43-8 in the Super Bowl. Offensive co-ordinator Adam Gase made his players watch the first half of that debacle just before they scattered for vacation last month. "I still havent watched the three I lost," Elway cracked. Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said hes watched the loss to the Seahawks plenty of times. "I watched it enough to hate them and you can write that down," Knighton said. "And Im looking forward to playing them again." The teams also play in the regular season when the Broncos visit the Seahawks on Sept. 21. "We want to get that bad taste out of our mouth (but) playing them in Week 3 wont get it out of our mouth," Knighton said. "It will just be winning the Super Bowl. We want to hoist that trophy." Notes: Training camp is closed to the public this year because of a $35 million construction project that includes a new indoor practice facility. The Broncos will hold three practices at their downtown stadium, including one on Sunday. "Our guys are probably more disappointed about it than anybody, maybe even the fans," Fox said. "... Well miss them, but we have to deal with it. Its a safety issue here with the construction. We look forward to getting them back out here next year." ... Rookie WR Cody Latimer made several big catches, including a long TD reception from Brock Osweiler with top pick Bradley Roby in coverage. Jake DeBrusk Jersey . “The shootout, theres nothing wrong with it, I think its an exciting part of the game but its just one small aspect,” said Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman. “Its a skill exhibition. If you can get it back closer to regular hockey and have it decided that way; that would be my preference.” “I dont think its a knock on the shootout, I think more of the managers would like to see it end in overtime,” added Washington Capitals GM George McPhee. http://www.bruinshockeypro.com/authentic-kevan-miller-bruins-jersey/ . Its been two seasons in one for both parties and neither will look back on the first 18 games fondly. "I think I took the fall for a lot of things," said Gay, reflecting on his short time in Toronto ahead of Wednesdays game against his former club.TORONTO -- Brett Lawries latest injury has the Toronto Blue Jays confused because theyre not sure quite how it happened. Lawrie felt something wrong in his left oblique muscle during batting practice earlier this week and now hes out a month. Even confounded by the cause of Lawries injury amid a season full of them, general manager Alex Anthopoulos doesnt blame the artificial turf at Rogers Centre. "I dont know that the injuries weve had have been linked to this," Anthopoulos said during a wide-ranging meeting with reporters Thursday afternoon. "Is there a wear and tear component to it? Sure. Im not denying that. "I just think its too easy to say everything relates back to the turf." Anthopoulos pointed to Lawries 2013 oblique injury happening at spring training in Florida and then at the World Baseball Classic in Arizona, all while running on grass. A couple of the third basemans other injuries, a broken finger from getting hit by a pitch and sprained ankle from sliding into a base, couldve happened anywhere. First baseman Adam Lind is out with a fractured right foot now but landed on the disabled list earlier this season with back problems, and Jose Reyes and Colby Rasmus each missed time with hamstring injuries. Reyes aggravated his hamstring ailment on the turf at Montreals Olympic Stadium, which Anthopoulos said used to be like "cement" when the Expos were there. Rogers Centre uses AstroTurf GameDay Grass, which gets rolled up for other events. Anthopoulos conceded that the turf can flatten out the more that its rolled but doesnt consider it the reason some players have gotten injured. "Guys that have Tommy John (elbow surgery), I dont think theres an impact," he said. "Adam Lind broke his foot. "It wasnt like a sledgehammer came up out of the turf and slammed him down on the foot." Edwin Encarnacion strained his right quadriceps muscle while running the bases in Oakland, and his rehab setback came when swinging in Dunedin, Fla. When a reporter relayed a story to Anthopoulos that opposing players have run to first and said to Lind, "I dont know how you play on this every day," the GM said he has heard the same thing before. Ray Bourque Jersey. But he also doesnt want to make the turf an excuse because the Blue Jays are locked into playing on it through at least 2017, when the stadium lease for the CFLs Toronto Argonauts expires. Anthopoulos said president Paul Beeston and members of the organization were exploring the possibility of changing the surface to grass. Five retractable-roof parks -- the Arizona Diamondbacks Chase Field, Houston Astros Minute Maid Park, Seattle Mariners Safeco Field, Milwaukee Brewers Miller Park and Miamis Marlins Park -- have natural grass, so the technology is available. "Would players certainly prefer to play on grass? Absolutely. Would I love to see grass? Absolutely," Anthopoulos said. "I know no matter what, the turf is there. "Its not going anywhere, at least for the next few years. So theres no point spending time on something that isnt going to change." Anthopoulos said it was a "total cop out" to blame the turf for any of the Blue Jays losing, pointing to the Tampa Bay Rays recent success. Rogers Centre and Tampa Bays Tropicana Field are the only two Major League Baseball stadiums left with artificial turf. Asked if the turf was a problem in signing free agents, Anthopoulos pointed to the two World Series won in the building formerly known as SkyDome in 1992 and 1993. But back then, the Blue Jays were among 10-of-26 major league teams playing on turf and one-of-five in domed stadiums. Anthopoulos wasnt sure if turf being more prevalent back then affected then-GM Pat Gillicks discussions with free agents, but he implied its not the driving force behind players signing or not signing with the Blue Jays during his regime. "Even in the past, when weve been able to bid high, whether its years or dollars, weve been able to get players," Anthopoulos said. "Do I think when things are very close, can it have an impact? Sure. But I dont think turf has anything to do with you win or lose games."
