CLEVELAND -- The Browns are acting as if Josh Gordon is already gone. Eric Weddle Jersey . With the status of their Pro Bowl wide receiver still unclear for next season, the team added two veteran free-agent wide receivers Thursday, agreeing to terms with Miles Austin and signing Earl Bennett. Both players give the Browns insurance in case Gordon, the teams top playmaker who led the NFL in yards receiving last season, is suspended for a year after reportedly failing another drug test. Austin and Bennett have been available since March, but the Browns passed on them in favour of signing veteran Nate Burleson to challenge Greg Little for the No. 2 receivers spot. However, a report last week that Gordon is facing a one-year suspension forced the Browns to find some quality help and rookie general manager Ray Farmer added Miles and Bennett. Despite being aware of Gordons situation, Farmer passed on drafting a wide receiver last week. At the time, Farmers inaction seemed peculiar, but the team obviously had other options in mind. "Were confident we have a plan," coach Mike Pettine said at a golf outing earlier this week. "That the situation didnt call for panic, thats something we werent going to do. I agree with Ray 1,000 per cent that we have to build this team so that no one player drives the ship, that we can be insulated. Losing players for extended periods of time potentially is part of the game. "Successful franchises are the ones that have enough depth built and enough options that they have from scheme-wise, coaching-wise to account for it. Those are the ones that are successful." A two-time Pro Bowl player, Austin was released by Dallas in March in a salary-cap move. The 29-year-old played in just 11 games last season because of hamstring injuries. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Austin was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He appeared in 106 games, recording 301 receptions for 4,481 yards and 34 touchdowns. Miles had his best season in 2009, when he had 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 27-year-old Bennett has made 29 starts in six pro seasons -- all with the Chicago Bears. He has 185 career receptions for 2,277 yards with 12 touchdowns. Last season, he had 32 receptions for 243 yards and four TDs in 15 games. Only hours after the Browns introduced Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel last Friday, ESPN reported that the 22-year-old Gordon is facing a one-year ban for testing positive for marijuana dampened the enthusiasm created by Clevelands draft. Citing unidentified sources, the report said Gordon was notified by a league physician that he failed the test. Gordon has failed two previous tests and was suspended for the first two games last season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Despite playing just 14 games, Gordon, who also had substance abuse issues in college, led the league with 1,646 yards receiving. The league has not commented on Gordons situation. Agent Drew Rosenhaus has declined comment. Faced with a substantial fine, Farmer was careful as he spoke about Gordon, but indicated the team was prepared to move on without him. "Its no different than if a player was going out during the off-season and broke an ankle or tore an ACL playing pickup hoops," Farmer said. "We have to build a football team that can win regardless of whos missing. I think thats the charge that we have. Thats my job. Thats coach Pettines job. To prepare this football team to win games regardless of whos missing." Along with Gordons fluid situation, the Browns may be without Burleson after he recently underwent minor surgery to fix a plate in the left arm he broke last year in a car accident. Farmer expects Burleson to be ready when training camp opens in July. The Browns also signed undrafted free agent defensive lineman Elhadji Ndiaye. Born in Senegal, the 6-4, 265-pound Ndiaye attended Nebraska-Kearney. He had six sacks in 2013. Tim Williams Jersey . The defending champions sent their preliminary list to FIFA on Tuesday, with coach Vicente del Bosque to announce the final 23-man squad on May 25. Costa is set to lead the attack in his native Brazil, with Atletico Madrid teammate David Villa and Chelseas Fernando Torres also included, while David de Gea replaces injured goalkeeper Victor Valdes. In the Brewers six games this season, no starter has allowed more than three runs. "We see the guy in front of us do a great job and we want to do even better," Gallardo said after the Brewers beat the Red Sox 4-0 on Sunday, his second straight scoreless start.DENVER -- Javier Baez made his major league debut a memorable one for himself and his family. Baez led off the 12th inning with a towering home run and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Tuesday night. Wellington Castillo also homered for the Cubs, who have won four of five. Baez, a prized prospect called up before the game, played his first game in the big leagues with his family sitting behind home plate. He struck out in three of his first five at-bats before hitting Boone Logans first pitch of the 12th an estimated 414 feet into the Rockies bullpen. "I faced him before and he threw me all curveballs," Baez said. "Hes got a good curveball so I wasnt sitting on the curveball, I was trying to hit a fastball." When he crossed home plate he pointed to his personal fan club and went back to the dugout where he was greeted with cheers. "Everybody was going crazy," he said. Baez nearly had his first hit in the seventh when he a drove a ball hard to right field but it was caught to end the inning. He didnt miss when he got a fastball in the 12th. "He had a few strikeouts but it wasnt for anxiousness," Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. "He didnt seem anxious at all. He got the first pitch he can hit and drove it." Hector Rondon (3-3) blew his fourth save but got the win and Carlos Villanueva picked up his second save. Both teams scored a run in the 11th to extend the game. Nolan Arenado homered and Logan (2-2) took the loss for the Rockies, who have dropped five straight. Rockies starter Brett Anderson allowed just one hit through three innings but left after one pitch in the fourth due to back spasms. "His back locked up and it doesnt look too good now," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. Franklin Morales came on and threw two scoreless innings before Castillo led off the sixth with his eighth home run of the season to cut Colorados lead to 3-1. The shakky Colorado bullpen faltered in the seventh. Discount Baltimore Ravens Jerseys. Three relievers combined to walk six batters in the inning, three of which scored to give the Cubs a 4-3 lead. The Cubs drew nine walks and only had six hits. Arenado tied it in the bottom of the seventh with his 10th home run of the season. The Rockies took a 2-0 lead in the second on Brandon Barnes two-run double over the bag at third base. Colorado added another run on a walk and three hits in the fifth inning. STARTING STRONG Chicago right-hander Travis Wood left the game after six innings with a 4-3 lead but came away without a win. He has 10 quality starts this season but hasnt had a victory since June 15. The Cubs rotation has 56 quality starts but only 26 wins this year. TRAINERS ROOM Cubs: Right-handed reliever Kyuji Fujikawa is with the team and close to returning after missing more than a year following Tommy John surgery. In 12 rehab outings this year Fujikawa has a 0.77 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 11 2-3 innings. He last pitched in a major league game on May 26, 2013. Rockies: Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is eligible to come off the disabled list Wednesday but hasnt started baseball related activities. The leading hitter in the major leagues has been out since suffering a left hip flexor strain in Washington on July 19 and manager Walt Weiss said Tulowitzki could return in the next week. ON DECK Cubs: Jake Arrieta (6-2, 2.11) will try to duplicate his strong start last week when didnt allow a Rockies baserunner until late into the fifth inning in the Cubs win at Wrigley Field. The righty allowed just three hits in seven innings of work but faces a stiffer challenge at Coors Field. Rockies: Right-hander Jordan Lyles (5-1, 3.52) will return to the rotation after missing two months with a fractured left hand. Lyles, acquired in an off-season trade with Houston, was pitching effectively before suffering the injury on a comebacker against Arizona on June 4.
