Lawyers representing former NFL players in their concussion claims estimate payouts from the settlement with the league will likely reach $1.4 billion.
The lawyers filed a status update Wednesday saying an actuary estimates the approved payouts to date and the number of players who had filed to be a part of the settlement are outpacing any previous estimate. The actuary says participation rates are 21 percent higher than estimated when the settlement was reached.
The $400 million increase in estimated payout came after a judge Wednesday denied for now a request from the league to appoint a special investigator to look into what the league said was extensive fraudulent claims against the settlement fund.
Judge Anita Brody says Panthers Game Jerseys , as of now, the audit process seems to be appropriately ferreting out and denying those claims.

A federal judge has denied a request from the NFL to appoint a special investigator to look into what the league says is extensive fraudulent claims on the $1 billion concussion settlement.
Judge Anita Brody wrote in her ruling Wednesday that the league's attorneys have demonstrated that there is "sufficient evidence of probable fraud to warrant serious concern." Brody says the already in place special master and claims administrator have effectively ferreted out those claims.
The league cited an independent study it said found more than 400 claims had been recommended for denial based on evidence of fraud by attorneys, doctors and former players attempting to cheat the program.
Plaintiffs' lawyers say they support Brody's decision, noting more than $485 million has already been approved for valid claims.
Los Angeles Rams star defensive end Aaron Donald has no plans to end his holdout and looks prepared to become a restricted free agent next year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.Even though Aaron Donald would have to report to Rams鈥?camp by Tuesday to make sure this counts as an accrued season and he wouldn鈥檛 be a restricted free agent next off-season http://www.chiefsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-armani-watts-jersey , he has no plans to rejoin the team, per sources. He will not be there Tuesday, nor anytime soon.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 6, 2018This doesn't bode well for a team that won the NFC West with an 11-5 record, thanks in large part to the domination of Donald. He was ranked as the best player in the league last season by Pro Football Focus Kolton Miller Jersey , generating an impressive 94.4 rating. Donald ranked as the second best player by PFF in 2016, garnering a 95.6 grade.Donald's situation was explained thoroughly by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Though Donald is entering his fifth season in the NFL, the CBA outlines聽"any player under contract who doesn鈥檛 report to camp by the 30th day before the start of the regular season does not acquire a year of credit toward free agency."Since Donald held out last season, he lost a year of credit, and it sounds like he's doing so again. Holding out is a major risk for Donald Cheap Nathan Shepherd Jersey , who would surely land a contract of over $100 million if he hit free agency, but he's only pushing back that opportunity by another year. It's an ugly situation with perhaps no resolution in sight, unless Rams GM Les Snead gives into Donald's demands. Though he did a fine job in landing more Pro Bowl talent this offseason, Snead surely knows there's no replacing a player of Donald's caliber. The Rams signed star defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal in free agency, and he and Donald were to form the next great pass-rushing duo. The Rams need Donald if they're to compete for the Super Bowl next season http://www.bengalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mark-walton-jersey , so the fans can only hope the matter is resolved soon enough..
