PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Carter-Williams had Allen Iverson cheering from his suite and left LeBron James impressed. Patrick Robinson Jersey . Not a bad start for MCW. It was an even better one for the Sixers. Carter-Williams had a debut to remember, using 22 points, 12 assists, and nine steals to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Miami Heat 114-110 on Wednesday night. The rookie out of Syracuse nearly upstaged Iverson on a night Philly feted his spectacular career. "You see what he can bring on a big stage," 76ers rookie head coach Brett Brown said. MCW was the MVP of the fourth quarter, picking up two more steals, harassing James in the lane, and sealing the win from the free-throw line. Spencer Hawes scored 24 points and put the Sixers ahead for good with a 3-pointer, then a driving layup for a 109-108 lead with 2:01 left. "Everything was clicking tonight," Carter-Williams said. "If we can consistently play together, then we can be a good team." The guys in the locker room might be the only ones who think that. As the NBA season tipped off, the over-under out of Las Vegas for total wins for the 76ers this year is 16.5, the lowest of any team in the league. Against the two-time defending champion Heat, no one in Philly cared. James missed five of six shots in the fourth, losing the ball on one drive down the middle, then blowing a 6-footer on the next possession. Shane Battier missed all seven 3-pointers in the game and the Heat missed 10 straight shots in the fourth -- after scoring a whopping 45 points in the third. The Heat needed all those points to rally after the Sixers dominated from the opening tip. They made their first 11 shots and raced to leads of 19-0 and 26-4, putting the champs on their heels a night after they received their rings. James had 25 points and 13 assists and Chris Bosh scored 22 for Miami. Miami guard Dwyane Wade sat out to rest his sore knees. Coach Erik Spoelstra says he wanted to give Wade an extra day to recover with the Heat playing in consecutive nights. Wade scored 13 points for the Heat in their 107-95 win over Chicago on Tuesday. Carter-Williams also hit four 3-pointers, had seven rebounds and his nine steals set an NBA first-game record. "I couldnt think of a better way to start your NBA career," James said. For most of the game, the Sixers played more like the team in the hunt for the championship, not one in full blown rebuilding mode. Iverson, Charles Barkley, Julius Erving and Moses Malone were among the former Sixers on hand for opening night. The Heat surely could have used Wade. Wade, though, had walked into locker room both knees wrapped in ice and an understanding it was too early in the season to push himself. He said it was "just being smart." "It was not pre-planned, it was something our trainers and coaches came to me with," Wade said. "Its early in the season, its just a precaution." James said Wade could take all the time he needed. "If he needs to take the second game of the season, the 30th game, 50th game, 80th game, thats the way it is," James said. After all, the Heat were a double-digit favourite to rout the Sixers, and expected to have little trouble against one of the worst teams in the NBA. Not so fast. Evan Turner scored 26 points and the Sixers dominated only hours after Iverson announced his retirement, ending a 14-year career. Carter-Williams had a steal and dunk to open the game, Turner dunked over James, and Hawes tossed in a layup for a stunning 19-0 run to open the game. James finally banked in a shot with 7:07 left in the first to end Miamis scoring drought. The Sixers still led 29-11 even with a lineup that included Tony Wroten, Lavoy Allen and Daniel Orton on the court. Who? Exactly. "Weve got a lot of pride, the guys that have been here and done it," Hawes said. The Heat, though, became the Heat and used a 14-0 run in the second quarter to pull to 51-49 at halftime. James hit a 3 that made it a one-point game, and Udonis Haslems inside layup gave the Heat their first lead of the game, 60-59. Ray Allen hit all four 3-pointers in the quarter, James made three and the Heat shot a sizzling 10 of 13 from 3-point range in the third. They finished 16 of 22 (73 per cent) from the floor overall and stretched the lead to 94-85. "Were a comfortable team, we always feel like we can win a game," James said. Just not this one. Natrell Jamerson Jersey . Simon (10-3) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in 6 1-3 innings to break a tie with the Dodgers Zack Greinke and Cardinals Adam Wainwright for the NL lead in victories. Simon went to spring training as a relief pitcher and moved into the starting rotation when Mat Latos was recovering from elbow and knee surgeries. Tom Savage Saints Jersey . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. http://www.saintsfootballpro.com/Saints-Jermon-Bushrod-Jersey/ . The three goals bring Messis career tally for Barcelona to 371 in all games -- including friendlies -- breaking the club record of 369 held by Paulino Alcantara since 1927. The 26-year-old Messi was already the clubs all-time leading scorer in official games. Messi assured Barcelonas fans they will enjoy his goals for years to come, saying "as long as people want me, I will stay here.NEW YORK -- Asked what pitch worked best against the New York Yankees, Carlos Carrasco gave a most obvious answer. "Everything," he said. Same goes for most everyone the Cleveland Indians are putting on the mound lately. Carrasco rejoined the Cleveland rotation in fine fashion by throwing five scoreless innings and the Indians nearly tossed another shutout at Yankee Stadium in a 4-1 win Sunday. Jacoby Ellsbury homered with two outs in the ninth off Indians closer Cody Allen, ending New Yorks season-worst scoreless streak at 19 innings. The shot let the Yankees avoid a dubious distinction -- not since 1999 had they been blanked in two straight games, STATS said. "That was a really fun day to watch," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "Everyone came in and did their job." Jason Kipnis got three hits and scored three runs as the Indians finished 4-3 against their fellow AL wild-card contender -- only twice in the last 22 years has Cleveland taken the season matchup. A day after Cleveland pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout and struck out 15 Yankees, Carrasco (4-4) and four relievers dominated with another five-hitter. "When you play the Yankees, you feel it in your body," he said. "You want to throw a shutout." Carrasco allowed just two singles, walked none, struck out four and retired his last 11 batters. Pitching in place of the recently demoted Danny Salazar, Carrasco made his first start since being banished to the bullpen in late April. Carrasco had gone 0-12 in 17 starts since 2011 -- shortly before his last win, he pitched seven scoreless innings at Yankee Stadium. He missed the 2012 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander threw from the stretch all game, firing a 96 mph with his first pitch, and met catcher Yan Gomes for hand slaps and back pats outside the dugout after the final out in the fifth. The Indians longest shutout streak of the season left Yankees manager Joe Girardi without a guess on what went wrong. "Not really sure," he said. "We just didnt swing the bats very well today." Cleveland evened its record at 59-59 by taking advantage of a surprisingly shaky Hiroki Kuroda (7-8). Normally one of baseballs best control pitchers, he walked a season-high four, hit a batter and threww a wild pitch. Cameron Meredith Saints Jersey. Kuroda issued his first bases-loaded walk since he was a major league rookie in 2008, STATS said. Gomes drew that walk for a 3-0 lead in the fifth and added an RBI single in the seventh. Michael Brantley drove in Clevelands first two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly. TRAINERS ROOM Indians: OF David Murphy (oblique) and DH-1B Nick Swisher (knee) went on the 15-day disabled list and OF Tyler Holt and INF-OF Zach Walters were promoted from Triple-A Columbus. Walters, acquired July 31 in the trade that sent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to Washington, started in left field in his Cleveland debut. Walters went 0 for 3 with a walk and had little action in the outfield as the Indians pitchers stayed in control. "I picked some good daisies out there," he said. Yankees: 1B Mark Teixeira returned to the lineup after missing three straight games because of an injured left pinkie. He went 1 for 4. UP NEXT Indians: In a scheduling quirk, Cleveland gets three off-days in the next eight days. The Indians host Arizona starting Tuesday night, with LHP T.J. House (1-3, 4.13) facing Diamondbacks RHP Josh Collmenter (8-6, 4.09). House has allowed three or fewer runs in seven straight starts. Yankees: LHP Chris Capuano (1-2, 3.91) starts Monday night at Camden Yards as New York begins a six-game trip to AL East-leading Baltimore and division rival Tampa Bay. Capuano has pitched well since being acquired from Colorado last month, yet is winless in his last nine starts overall. SPEEDING ALONG Jacoby Ellsbury stole his 30th base, swiping second without a throw after a single in the Yankees first. He led the majors with 52 steals last year for Boston, and is a three-time AL stolen base champ. WALK THIS WAY Indians 1B Carlos Santana drew his majors-leading 82nd walk. He became the 22nd player in big league history to walk 400 times in his first five seasons, and the first since both Albert Pujols and Adam Dunn did it in 2005. SHOPPING SPREE Walters had a signed Derek Jeter jersey hanging in his locker after the game. Walters walked nine blocks -- "those blocks are really long here," he said -- on Saturday night to buy the souvenir at a store, then got it autographed Sunday by the Yankees star he called "an idol."
