URWERK UR-230 Eagle It’s always exciting whenever Urwerk adds a new timepiece to the collection. At this year’s Dubai Watch Week, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei launched the UR-230 “Eagle”, taking the UR-200 series to another level . This "Eagle" adds some new elements to the series in terms of appearance, design and mechanics. With the iconic satellite display, wandering hours and retrograde minutes, the engine has been upgraded and given a high-tech makeover.
The brand’s iconic turbine has been improved with innovative shock absorbers designed to protect the new in-house UR-7.30 movement. The first set of turbines is specifically designed to attenuate the impact of any external impact, ensuring the watch’s durability. The second group controls the air flow supplied to the winding system. The strength of this "air brake" is designed to adjust the winding power according to the wearer's activity level, and is set by a rotating knob on the back of the watch. From a technical perspective, the sophistication and robustness of Urwerk's signature turbine rotor is a huge step forward.
Another Urwerk signature, the UR-230 “Eagle” is equipped with a cover that protects the large sapphire crystal that covers the wandering hour mechanism. On the surface, this seems like a simple addition, but considering the lid's braking system eliminates the possibility of hitting the sapphire crystal, it's no small feat of engineering. Made entirely from CTP carbon, the material offers the perfect combination of lightweight, durable stiffness and matte aesthetics.
The carbon, which is black, lightweight and hard, is made from stacked layers and pressed together at high temperatures. The resulting block is then processed into blocks, following a pattern that displays the layers in a regular, controlled geometric pattern. The back is made of black DLC titanium which is grooved and perfectly compatible with skin.
Within the UR-200 series, the UR-230 “Eagle” is an evolutionary step that broadens the scope of the brand’s design and technical feats. The UR-230 is sure to be a hit with collectors.
