Houston’s much-maligned draft class was first up on my list to review, followed by the rest of their AFC South rivals. [3] Lonnie Johnson is the big, long press corner that this team has lacked for...I don’t know...forever? Protect him over the top with a safety, and I think we’ve got something here.[4] Kahale Warring reminds me of a less-quick version of Zach Ertz.[5] Charles Omenihu had no business being a fifth round pick, and I mean that as a compliment.[6] Xavier Crawford has a chance to make the team as a nickel or dime corner.[7] Cullen Gillaspia is an actual crazy person. Enjoy the show! Whether you are still holding out hope that the Texans fire Bill O’Brien or not, the Houston Texans are knee-deep in the playoff race with seven games left in the season. The crazy thing about this season - and the rationale behind teams going from worst to first - is that the Texans only play one more team the entire season that currently has a winning record. That team, the Washington Redskins, just placed three players on IR last week. The road to the AFC South goes through Houston. The Texans are home for the remaining three divisional games on the schedule. Four of Houston’s last seven games are at home and the combined record of their opponents is 24-33-1. Although the schedule looks fortuitous, the Texans would not be in their positive current situation without star quarterback Deshaun Watson. Last week’s victory over Denver marked the 16th game that Deshaun has played in, which is enough for us to summarize his performance over the last two years, albeit combined into one season.Through his first sixteen games in the NFL, Watson has completed 311 passes for 4 http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-jon-weeks-jersey ,088 yards and 36 touchdowns while throwing 15 interceptions. He has a 9-7 record. His TD to INT ratio is 2.4, and he has an overall Passer Rating of 101.7. Since the moment Watson suited up for the Texans, he has elevated the level of play for Houston’s offense to heights that we have not ever thought possible with past quarterbacks at the helm. DW4 has thrown a touchdown in all but one of his games... and in that game, the first start of his NFL career (against the Bengals on Thursday Night Football), he had a 49 yard rushing touchdown. The hot-streak that Watson began his career on was capped off with a fou touchdown game against the Seahawks as he passed Kurt Warner for the most passing touchdowns in league history over seven games. Rookie QB Patrick Mahomes tied Watson’s mark this past year, but that does not reduce the impressiveness of Watson’s feat.The mix of blunt force trauma doled out by Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue, oddly effective tunnel screens, and mid-range darts by Watson have the Texans’ offense humming on balance during the 16 games that featured WatsonFor those who love to draw a comparison to Russell Wilson, the Seahawks’ QB threw 252 passes for 3,118 yards and 26 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in his first season. Wilson also led the Seahawks to the NFC Divisional Round before a close loss to the Falcons. There are several noticeable differences in Watson’s game from 2017 to 2018. Namely, Watson’s willingness and effectiveness running the ball. It’s unfortunate that the era of Watson mesmerizing fans with long runs is most likely over after he tore his ACL in 2017. This season Womens Jordan Akins Jersey , he is averaging 5.72 yards per carry; last year, he averaged 7.47 yards per carry. Those 1.75 yards per carry that we are missing might have been crucial in remedying the Texans’ red zone mishaps that costed them dearly in the first couple of games.In both the run and pass game, Watson has been more tentative in his decision-making. Comparing 2017 to 2018, there is an inherent difference in what Watson is excelling at in the passing game. NextGen Stats can provide us a visualization of the changes.2017 Deshaun Watson:2018 Deshaun Watson:Notice the difference in 20+ yard passes this season? Watson currently hovers above the league average when throwing the ball downfield, when just last year he was taking the top off of opponent’s defense with absurd deep balls. Consequently, his overall mid-range throws are more effective that last year. From 0-20 yards, Watson has improved in four of six passing areas. Check-downs and dump-offs have become a normality in the Texans’ offense as Watson is less comfortable driving the ball deep into the secondary.The Texans have enough weapons on the current roster to break down defenses at any level of the field. I am not worried about Watson taking as many risks, especially with Will Fuller out for the season, but it does limit the dynamic plays Houston’s offense can put together as the safeties do not have to worry about covering the entire field. More space between the safeties and the line of scrimmage means less available room for DeAndre Hopkins to maliciously attack the underbelly of opposing defensive zones. Look at Hopkins’ route chart in the game against the Broncos. Not a single route beyond 20 yards.If Watson cannot deliver the ball downfield to his best receiver, it could definitely slowly limit his route tree - if it hasn’t already.The caveat to the doubt and limits that Watson is gravitating towards is the undeniable win streak and continued record-breaking performances. Week after week, Watson is putting up numbers Tom Savage’s agent could only dream about. Missing Fuller in this offense hurts. I’d love if the Texans had added someone who can run a 4.3 40 yard dash to run wind sprints up the sideline purely to stretch the field with zero intention of throwing him the ball. Anything to spread out the defense just a little bit.Even with a putrid offensive line Justin Reid Jersey , mediocre play-calling, and multiple injuries to his top pass catching targets, Watson has put together a first 16 games of his career that rivals the best to play the game. Being associated with Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, and other Hall of Fame quarterbacks is a feat that many never expected out of Watson, at least not this quickly. But here we are. Has it been pretty all the time? Hell no. Watson’s decision-making and inconsistency vary on a play-by-play basis, but in the end he makes significantly more big plays that turnovers.I can live with that any day.

Dre Kirkpatrick’s highs and lows were all on display against Baltimore Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick has taken his fair share of criticism Renell Wren Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but he does some impressive things in coverage when put in the right situation. Kirkpatrick had a few negative plays early in the team’s Week 2 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, but as the game went on, he put out some quality tape.On this first play, where Jessie Bates caught his first career interception, the Bengals are in Cover 1 man (with Bates as the single-high safety) and Kirkpatrick is playing loose at 7 yards on the bottom of the screen. He lets Ravens wide receiver Willie Snead IV eat up his cushion too fast. Kirkpatrick struggles with receivers like Snead who are good at creating separation, and off a free release that gives him plenty of space to build up speed in the vertical stem, Snead blazes by Kirkpatrick. He should be faster in his back pedal and transition faster to turn and run with the receiver. Kirkpatrick is on the top of the screen on this next play. The wide receiver pushes him vertically and stems to the outside. Kirkpatrick turns to the outside as the receiver pushes that direction, but quickly turns back in and stays with him. Kirkpatrick gets his eyes to the ball and is in position to make the play, but unfortunately drops the interception. Kirkpatrick is excellent with his feet on this play, but his hands let him down, like they usually do. Here Cheap C.J. Uzomah Jersey , Snead is again lined up against Kirkpatrick on the top of the screen. He is able to stem and get inside of Kirkpatrick on the vertical route. To his credit, Kirkpatrick fights back and gets back into good position, but he needlessly grabs Snead’s jersey and draws the flag. This is a big mistake that gives the Ravens first-and-goal.Kirkpatrick does an excellent job on this vertical route. He is playing wide receiver John Brown tight at the top of the screen. His hips are excellent on this play, and that allows him to transition quickly.Once he turns to the receiver, he closes the horizontal space between himself and Brown. This pressures Brown to move closer to the sideline, which narrows the window for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco to throw in. Once again, Kirkpatrick is covering Brown in tight man coverage at the top of the screen. Brown runs a vertical route, but chops his feet after a few yards trying to make Kirkpatrick think that he is going to cut off his route. Brown then quickly continues his route up the sideline, and Kirkpatrick is unphased. He chops his feet in his backpedal, then turns and runs with Brown stride for stride. This is excellent coverage by Kirkpatrick, but an incredible throw by Flacco and some sideline tow-tapping by Brown makes it a touchdown. Kirkpatrick is best when he is able to use his strength and length in addition to his speed. On the bottom of the screen Jeff Driskel Jersey , Kirkpatrick uses his hands to jam wide receiver Michael Crabtree at the line of scrimmage. Crabtree releases to the outside and Kirkpatrick quickly gets on his hip. He leans on the route keeping Crabtree on the sideline. With this excellent coverage, Flacco lofts the ball out of bounds.Kirkpatrick has had his ups and downs, but has the skillet to be a solid boundary cornerback. The Bengals could help him by flipping fellow cornerback William Jackson and him around based on matchups, with Jackson taking on the team’s best receiver, but that doesn’t seem like it’d going to happen based off the first two games. Kirkpatrick plays best against receivers with some size who have more straight-line speed than lateral speed, and he also benefits from jamming and using his length. His strengths are well telegraphed at this point, as are his weaknesses. With a talented secondary around him, Kirkpatrick has a chance to turn in an above average year in a new scheme. The Bengals added to their secondary to close out their draft class. This year Nick Vigil Jersey Limited , they concluded their draft with the selection South Dakota State’s Jordan Brown, another cornerback.As evident by how the draft panned out, the top of the cornerback class was not highly regarded. But 31 of them ended up getting drafted. Brown was No. 28 to come off the board and will enter a cornerback room in Cincinnati rich with talent at the position.What Brown brings to the BengalsBall production: In his four years with the Jackrabbits, Brown accumulated 35 passes defended and eight interceptions. 27 of those passes defended and six of those interceptions came in his final two years. Even against low-level competition, that’s elite production that you want in a cornerback prospect. He was also a former wide receiver, so you know his ball skills are legit.Explosive athleticism: An NFL combine invite, Brown jumped 39.5” in the vertical jump and 128” in the broad jump. At his measured size of 6-0 and 201 pounds, that is elite explosion. He isn’t the fastest player at that size, but his ability to break on routes makes him an intriguing off-coverage defender.Leadership: This has been a clear theme this year. The Bengals have done a good job in this draft of investing in well-respected locker room leaders and Brown is no exception. In his final season, he was elected as a team captain and has been praised for his maturity as a player. He never missed a game once he earned a starting role in 2016.Why the Bengals selected BrownPositional value: Quality cornerback play is obviously incredibly important; depending on who you ask, it’s even more significant than a defense’s pass rush. If it isn’t, Brown can be a piece that eases the blow.Low-risk upside: Very rarely do FCS players, even studs like Brown, become long-term contributors in the NFL. This is mainly due to lack of opportunity and Brown may never get the chance to prove himself as a starter, but his production and athleticism are both great selling points for his future outlook.Spread the wealth: With their previous nine picks, the Bengals essentially addressed every other position group, with the exception of the secondary. No harm in throwing cornerbacks coach Daronte Jones a bone before the draft ended. Brown actually being a quality player is the cherry on top.

HOUSTON (AP) — Lamar Miller was searching for ways to improve this offseason after what he calls a disappointing 2017.It was then that the Houston Texans running back decided to take the advice of two former Miami Hurricanes running backs with a combined 25 years of NFL experience.Edgerrin James Womens Jadeveon Clowney Jersey , a four-time Pro Bowler who spent 11 years in the NFL, and Frank Gore, a 35-year-old who made the Pro Bowl five times and is in his 14th season shared their secret for NFL longevity: weight loss.“They were just telling me that every year they tried to play lighter and lighter because as you get older they say you lose a step … and all that weight is not good,” Miller said.“So just having guys like that to give you some knowledge on some of the things that helped them throughout their career, I just felt like it would help me. So that’s something I tried to focus on this offseason was to lose some weight.”Gore called Miller his “little brother” and said he’s a big believer in running backs getting lighter as they age.“I used to play at 217, 218 when I was younger,” he said. “Now I try to play lighter than that.”That led the 5-foot-10 Miller to shed about 7 pounds, dropping from 225 last year to 218 this season.Though he didn’t make the change until this season, his transformation was about three years in the making.Gore, who Miller has long looked to for advice, first brought up that he started playing a bit lighter every year as he aged before Miller’s first season in Houston in 2016.
